Whey Aye WI wishes to celebrate the Centenary of the WI (in 2015) and our own 10th birthday (in 2016) by awarding a bursary to one of our members. Denman College (Marcham, Oxfordshire) is the WI’s own residential college where members (and non members) can enjoy a wide range of cookery, craft, and lifestyle courses; visit the website to see details of current courses - http://www.denmancollege.org.uk

The successful recipient will receive £250 towards the cost of a residential course (two night courses, with all meals and accommodation, are normally around this price), plus up to a maximum of £100 towards travel expenses. Direct train travel from Newcastle to Oxford is available, and a free taxi to and from Oxford train station and the College is available if booked in advance. All cookery courses include the cost of ingredients; some craft courses may require students to bring materials.

To apply, please write a letter to Whey WI Committee outlining why you would like to go to Denman College, with an indication of the type of course you would like to take part in.  It is not necessary to have a specific course or date in mind at the point of application but you should explain your reasons for wanting to visit Denman College.  The deadline for applications is Tuesday 28th October 2014 (which is a WI meeting night).

“Good luck” and here’s the important small print!
  1. The £250 bursary will be paid directly to Denman College. The successful recipient will be required to pay the additional cost if they choose a course which costs more than £250.
  2. The bursary must be used towards a course to be taken between 1st January 2015 and 31st January 2016.
  3. The successful recipient will be required to make their own travel arrangements to Oxford and claim the cost back from Whey Aye WI (providing receipts for train travel; if driving a mileage rate will be provided).
  4. The successful recipient must be a member of Whey Aye WI as at 27th January 2015 (having paid their annual subscription for 2015).
  5. Applications received by the deadline will be considered by an independent panel and the successful recipient will be notified by 1st December 2014.
