This year the Federation will be awarding Bursaries in memory of two members who each made excellent contributions to the WI.

The first is in memory of Heather Abrahams who was Chairman of the Federation from 2000 - 2004 and a WI Advisor. She took a great interest in Public Affairs and Education and the Bursary will go to someone whose choice of course or training reflects this.

The second is in memory of Margaret Clementson, a member of the former Tyneside Federation who joined the Northumberland Federation Board of Trustees upon amalgamation. She was also a WI Advisor and very talented craftswoman and this Bursary will go to a member who wishes to take a course in any type of craft.

Details of the Bursaries are:

  • Each Bursary is for £250. This may be used as all or part payment of an appropriate course either at Denman or more locally.
  • Assistance will be given towards travelling expenses if the course is at Denman or outside Northumberland (but not outside UK)
  • Only members of a Northumberland WI may apply
  • The Bursary cannot be used for a Federation visit to Denman
  • A member who has previously received a Federation Bursary is not eligable
  • The course should be taken by July 2014

Applications should be sent to the Federation Chairman, Hilary Robson, to arrive not later than Monday 1st July. The two successful applicants will be informed after the Board of Trustees meeting on 9th July.

The letter of application should include name, address and telephone number as well as an email address if available. It must also state which WI you belong to and which Bursary you are applying for.

In addition you should also say what subject you would like to study even though you may not, at this stage, be able to identify a specific course or date.

Finally your letter should include one or two sentences explaining how doing this course would enrich your life.
