Tanfield Railway trip

We're looking forward to a ride on the world's oldest railway this Sunday (1st Sept) when we have cream tea aboard the Tanfield Railway!

We're meeting at 1.30pm and the train leaves at 2pm. Directions below:

The Tanfield Railway is within easy reach of all major towns and cities in the North East of England. The railway's main entrance for Andrews House Station and Marley Hill Engine Shed is situated alongside the main A6076 road between Stanley in County Durham and Gateshead in Tyne & Wear.

We want your ideas!

The committee is busy putting together our programme for next year and we want your views! This is your WI so we'd like to know what subjects you'd be most interested in hearing about and getting involved with. Thanks to everyone who filled in the printed survey at our July meeting. We have a short online survey for anyone who wasn't at that meeting and we'd love it if you could all fill it in, even if you haven't been able to make it to Whey Aye for a while. Tynemouth Lifeboat Station visit

A group of us had a fantastic time today being shown round Tynemouth Lifeboat station at North Shields. There were 9 of us altogether as we were joined by three members of Newcastle East WI. Kevin from the RNLI gave us a fascinating tour round the station and told us all kinds of information in an entertaining way.


We learned lots of things about the operation of the lifeboat service. For instance, did you know:
